赝品书画给书画艺术市场的正常发展带来了消极影响，但也有一些特殊情况使得一些赝品书画具有宝贵的价值，例如以下情况：临摹的作品。一些书画“传世名作”是靠“摹本”形式流传至今。例如晋朝王羲之的《兰亭序》真迹，世久无存。但有虞世南本、遂良(米芾诗题)本，冯承素本等摹本流传下来。这些历代名人书法大家临摹王羲之的作品，其艺术价值、历史价值、经济价值不言而喻。

仿造的作品。历史上一些书画名家的作品相继失传，于是就出现了以仿品来替代真迹的方法，来填补书画史上某一作者代表作品的空缺。

将名家作品改头换面、张冠李戴。例如清代大画家袁耀的青绿山水画就曾经被作伪过。袁耀字“昭道”，而唐代着名大画家李思训的儿子小李将军名为李昭道。

作伪者把袁耀的“袁”字挖掉，利用“昭道”二字与唐小李将军的名字相同，故在画的首部题上“唐小李将军”的字样。我们不能因为此幅画不是唐代李昭道的，就否认这幅画的艺术成就。
